Performance-related Requirements
Software
- For best performance the Compass UI Runtime should always be kept in the foreground of the Windows operating system. Avoid running resource-intensive software applications on the same system. This could starve the PC of CPU or network resources and impact Compass UI Runtime performance.
- Wired Ethernet connections are required by Compass 2 for connection stability and reliability. Wi-Fi introduces potential failure modes that don't exist for hard-wired Ethernet connections. Wi-Fi should not be used with Compass 2.
Requirements vary depending on individual application requirements, but the recommendations below work well for most applications:
- Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 2024 LTSC
- LTSC versions offer 5-10 years of updates, focused on long term stability and security
- Additional features available for kiosk mode, read-only image to prevent data loss via UWF , etc
- 16GB RAM minimum
- CPU with 3000+ PassMark (Single Thread Rating or higher, e.g. Intel Core i3-1220PE)
- Single threaded performance is beneficial for improving UI response
- CPU with 12,000+ PassMark (Multi-Thread Rating or higher, e.g. Intel Core i3-1220PE)
- 256GB solid state storage
- 2 Ethernet ports (one for network connection, one for dedicated controller communications)
- 3 USB 2.0 ports (one USB Type A port required for the License Key)
- UPS with automatic PC shutdown
- 2GB RAM or more for part programs exceeding 200MB or running additional applications
- Additional storage for additional applications or part programs
- Increased CPU performance, especially PassMark Single Thread Rating
